Everyone in the world is a fashion follower either knowingly or unknowingly. It does not depend on either the age or the sex. Even then only very few know what the real definition of fashion is or how it has evolved thus far. One such prominent fashion brand in the market now is Lacoste. Lacoste has a very interesting and proud history. It was founded by a legendary tennis player in 1927. He wouldn`t have thought of going this far at that time when he started. It was a brand evolved to keep a bet by the captain of the tennis team.

Rene Lacoste, the captain of the French tennis team agreed to give a suitcase made of alligator skin to his team players, if they win an important match in the Davis cup. Finally they won that match. After that people started calling him the alligator. A friend of the captain, Robert George later embroidered an alligator on the captain`s blazer which he wore to the tennis court. This later became the identity of the brand Lacoste. Andre Gillier was a huge knitwear manufacture in France by then. Robert joined together with Andre and started producing lots of sports wear especially for tennis. Most of them were initially made for his person use in tennis. Later he realized the market potential for these designs and started producing them in mass. They did not stop with tennis. Then the designs were made for golf and sailing. Their uniqueness in the field made them to grow rapidly. With the fast growing of shirt business, they started expanding their business to other fields as well. One such field is scents and fragrances. They have already made their mark in these fields as well. It’s amazing that how a bet can get this far.
